Prepare before leaving reliable internet
Use the exact device that will be carried on the sideline. A successful pregame check proves that the current team, playbook, game history, and offline permissions are present on that device.
- 1Open Account and find Offline readiness.
- 2Confirm the intended team says Ready and review Last synced.
- 3Choose Sync now if any changes are pending.
- 4Open Game Day, several priority plays, the full playbook, and the whiteboard once.
- 5Confirm the device has free storage and enough battery for the full event.
- 6Carry a printed call sheet or wristband backup.
Start the right game and workspace
The Game Day workspace selector determines whose plays and history you are using. A team session contributes to shared team records. Personal Game Day is a device-only session built from personal plays.
| Workspace | What it provides |
|---|---|
| Team Game Day | Team playbook, shared game record, drives, team history, offline preparation, staff access, and eligible opponent intelligence. |
| Personal Game Day | Personal plays, clocks, scoring, calls, and local history stored only on this device. |
- 1Open Game Day and use the workspace selector to choose the intended team or Personal Game Day.
- 2Choose Start a game or New game.
- 3Enter the opponent if known; it is optional and defaults to Opponent.
- 4Confirm the game date. Add the location if it will help identify the event later.
- 5Choose Start live game.
- 6If reopening an existing game, use the active-game selector and confirm the opponent before recording anything.
Choose the controlling device
A prepared team game has one controlling device so two sidelines cannot create incompatible score and event histories. Other staff devices become view-only for live changes, while their playbook and whiteboard remain available.
- 1On the primary device, open the prepared team game while connected.
- 2When the banner says No controller selected, choose Use this device.
- 3Confirm that the saved-on-device status appears.
- 4Leave other staff devices in view-only mode during the game.
- 5If control truly must move, synchronize the original device first, connect the replacement device, and choose Move control here.
Run the score and both clocks
The elapsed game clock and play clock serve different purposes. Both count upward from zero, but they are controlled and saved differently.
| Control | How it works |
|---|---|
| Our score / opponent score | Use + or − for one-point corrections. Recording a touchdown adds six points automatically to the team in possession. |
| Elapsed game clock | Choose Start or Pause in the scoreboard. It catches up when you return on the same browser, installed web app, or native device. |
| Play clock | Choose Start, Pause, or Reset. Selecting a call pauses it; recording the result resets it to 0 and starts the next count. |
| Period | Use Menu → Start second half or Start next period. This advances the period and resets the elapsed game clock. |
- 1Start the elapsed game clock when the game begins.
- 2Pause it when your competition rules stop time; TactiFlag does not infer stoppages.
- 3Use the score buttons for manual corrections that are not created by a recorded touchdown.
- 4Start or reset the play clock at the point your staff uses for between-play timing.
- 5Before advancing the period, pause the elapsed clock and confirm the score.
Set possession, down, distance, and field context
Choose Edit in Current situation whenever the live state changes. Accurate context determines which calls appear first and what gets stored with the result.
| Situation control | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Possession | We have the ball or Opponent possession. Switch possession also closes the active drive and begins the next one. |
| Down | Choose 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. |
| Distance | Use − / +, enter exact yards from 1–99, or choose the quick values 1, 3, 5, or 10. |
| Line to gain | Choose Mark goal to go when the next line to gain is the goal line; the heading becomes down and Goal. |
| Field zone | Choose Backed up, Open field, Red zone, or Goal line. |
| Opponent look | Choose a common formation or coverage, toggle Blitzer on offense, and add your own short detail when needed. |
- 1Choose Edit.
- 2Confirm possession first so the correct side of the playbook is used.
- 3Set down and exact distance, or mark Goal to go.
- 4Set the field zone.
- 5On offense, record the defense shape or coverage: Box, Diamond, Man, Cover 2, Cover 3, or Soft zone; add Blitzer when declared.
- 6On defense, record the offensive look: Spread, Trips, Bunch, Motion, or Run-heavy.
- 7Choose Done and verify the summary before calling a play.
Understand Best matches
Best matches ranks calls already in the current offense or defense playbook. It does not make the decision for the coach, and the live screen remains usable even when enhanced advice is unavailable.
- A play receives more weight when its designed field zone matches the current zone
- Matching down and distance raise its position
- A matching opponent look or saved tendency can raise it
- Recorded success in team history and against this opponent influences the order
- Install confidence and coach favorites contribute evidence
- A recently called play is reduced to avoid mindless repetition
- The reason under each call explains why it is currently near the top
- Watch text identifies a risk when one is available
Call a play and record the result
Choosing a call opens a result sheet after the play. Recording the outcome connects the canonical play, situation, yards, success, opponent look, drive, and coach into one correctable event.
| On offense | On defense |
|---|---|
| Complete | Stop |
| First down | Flag pull |
| Touchdown | Sack |
| Incomplete | Turnover |
| Loss | First down allowed |
| Turnover | TD allowed |
| Penalty | Penalty |
- 1Update Current situation and the opponent look.
- 2Choose a play from Best matches or open Full playbook and search for it.
- 3TactiFlag pauses the play clock and opens Record the snap.
- 4Choose the result, then use − or + to enter the actual yards. Negative yards are allowed.
- 5Choose Record & next down.
- 6Read the saved confirmation and verify the new down, distance, and score.
- 7If the last entry was wrong, choose Undo immediately to restore both the event and the earlier situation.
Use the full playbook and quick tools
Best matches intentionally shows only the first three calls. The supporting tools provide an escape hatch without leaving the live workspace.
- 1Choose View all offense/defense plays or Full playbook.
- 2Search by play name, formation, or category.
- 3Choose the desired play to open its result sheet.
- 4Choose Defense changed or Offense changed to reopen Current situation immediately.
- 5Choose Live whiteboard for a temporary adjustment.
- 6Use Menu → Call sheet when you need the prepared sideline set instead of the complete library.
Manage possessions and correct the drive log
A drive begins with the game and a new drive is created whenever possession changes. The Drives view groups calls in reverse order so the most recent possession is easiest to inspect.
- 1When possession changes, open Current situation and choose Switch possession.
- 2Confirm the new side begins at 1st & 10 in Open field, then correct those defaults if the rules or spot require it.
- 3Open Menu → Drives to review each call, result, yards, success state, and recorded opponent look.
- 4Use the trash button only when an event should be removed from history.
- 5After deleting an older event, manually verify the current score and situation; deleting history is not the same as the immediate Undo workflow.
Open the live sideline whiteboard
The whiteboard is a game-specific scratch space for the adjustment in front of you. It is available from the header, the Game Day menu, and the Live calls quick tools.

- 1CanvasThe half-field sketch area, with a fixed line of scrimmage for quick orientation.
- 2OffenseAdds numbered green offensive player markers.
- 3DefenseAdds blue defensive X markers.
- 4BallAdds a football marker at the tapped location.
- 5Drawing controlsChoose ink, width, line style, and optional line correction.
- 6DoneReturns to Game Day while preserving this board on the device.
- 1Open Whiteboard.
- 2Choose Offense, Defense, or Ball, then tap the field to place each marker.
- 3Choose Draw, select color, width, and Solid or Dotted, then sketch the adjustment.
- 4Turn on Correct lines only when you want the freehand path simplified.
- 5Use Erase for one nearby item, Undo for the last change, or Clear twice to empty the board.
- 6Choose Done to return to live calls.
Use opponent scouting and tendencies · Pro
Scout is available for team games with Opponent Intelligence. It separates what coaches expect from what Game Day actually records.
- 1Open Menu → Scout.
- 2Choose whether the tendency describes their defense or their offense.
- 3Choose Any, Short yardage, Long yardage, or Red zone.
- 4Select the shape, coverage, or offensive look; add Blitzer when appropriate.
- 5Write the observable tendency and rate it Possible, Likely, or Strong tell.
- 6Save general opponent notes separately for personnel, tempo, substitution, or coaching context.
- 7Return to Live calls and record the actual opponent look between snaps.
- What we expect contains coach-entered tendencies
- Looks we actually saw counts the looks attached to recorded snaps
- After the game is final, two or more snaps with the same look can produce a proposed learning
- Nothing becomes permanent team memory until a coach chooses Approve
Read live and season insights
Insights summarizes only the outcomes that coaches recorded. It becomes more useful as the staff uses consistent result and yard standards.
| Insight | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Success rate | Successful graded calls divided by all graded calls in the current game. |
| Calls logged | Recorded play events in the current game. |
| Net yards | The sum of positive and negative yards entered for current-game calls. |
| Turnovers | Current-game calls recorded with Turnover. |
| Results by call | Current-game calls, yards, and success rate for each canonical play. |
| Across recorded games | Team call volume, success, yards, and play history across stored games. |
| Why the top recommendation leads | The evidence attached to the current first-ranked play. |
- 1Open Menu → Insights after at least one result is recorded.
- 2Check the current-game totals for obvious entry mistakes.
- 3Compare results by call before repeating or abandoning a concept.
- 4Use the season history as evidence for the next install plan, not as a substitute for coaching context.
Advance the period, finish, and review
Use the Menu for formal game-state transitions. Finishing preserves the game and unlocks eligible postgame learning; it does not delete or archive the record.
- 1Pause the elapsed game clock and confirm the score before halftime or the next period.
- 2Choose Menu → Start second half or Start next period.
- 3At the end, verify the final score, possession history, and most recent result.
- 4Choose Menu → Finish game.
- 5Open Drives and Insights for the first review.
- 6For an eligible team game, open Scout and approve only the postgame learning the staff wants TactiFlag to remember.
- 7If the game was finished accidentally, choose Menu → Reopen game.
Continue safely through a connection loss
For a prepared team, Game Day writes supported changes to the device first and synchronizes automatically after the connection returns. The status banners distinguish saved changes from the rare state where changes exist only in memory.
- 1Keep using the designated controlling device.
- 2Record calls, results, drives, score, situation changes, and whiteboard work normally.
- 3Watch the device-save status instead of repeatedly refreshing the page.
- 4After reconnecting, keep TactiFlag open while saved changes upload.
- 5Check Offline readiness and Sync Center before moving control or editing the same game elsewhere.
